Argentine soccer player beaten to death by hooligans in front of family

A 33-year old Argentine soccer player died from injuries sustained when supporters of a rival team attacked him after a game.
Franco Nieto was the captain of a lower-division soccer club called Tiro Federal. He was reportedly attacked by hooligans who punched, kicked and hit him with a stone in front of his wife and one-month-old daughter.

Nieto's cousin told the BBC that the player was surrounded by three people as he walked to his car with his family after a match against rival club Chacarita Juniors in the northwest of the country. The game was reportedly called off early after several players began fighting on the field with about 15 minutes left to play.
Nieto died Wednesday, after doctors operated on him Tuesday.
"It's horrible," a local police official named Roque Jaime told the Associated Press. "They beat him, kicked him and, after that, hit him in the head with a rock, which was fatal."
