Top 3 Social Media Campaign Lessons from @Donjazzy Vs @Olamide_YBNL Beef
If you are reading this now then you already know the reason behind this post but just in case you have been too busy offline to notice the out boost online from the fans of Olamide the CEO of YBNL a record label that has Lil kesh signed on to it, who just happens to be listed in the Next rated category at the recently concluded Headies AWARD and Don Jazzy the CEO of Mavin Record which has Reekado Banks signed on to it who also got nominated for the same award with Lil kesh at the 2015 Headies Award.
The whole thing started when Reekado won the next rated artiste of the year which includes a brand new SUV car. Just as expected from the Yoruba Rapper Olamide, he came on stage to join Adekunle Gold to receive his award for the song Sade and in the process he picked up the mic and aired his view about the Next Rated Category.
"The winner for the "Next rated artiste" should be Lil Kesh men! Every fcking single was a hit!, I ya la ya anybody!"
Just as if that was not enough he then pus up his two middle fingers in the air and through away the disposable cup he had with him when he stepped up to the stage.
Then Don Jazzy came to receive his award for special recognition of the year and he responded to Olamide in his acceptance speech
"I only came here to support my children(referring to Korede and Reekado) I have told award organizers that I don't like awards. I told my children that I will buy all of them cars; they should just enjoy the HEADIES. Egbon Olamide, if you want the car, come and collect it, I will give it to you."
Now lets talk business...
Social media is not left out from this uproar as fans from both sides took to twitter, facebook, instagram, Snapchat and every other major social media platforms out there to voice out there opinion.
Number One Social Media Campaign Lesson:
1. DO NOT REPLY ANY NEGATIVE COMMENT IF YOU WILL BE EMOTIONAL:
If you are angry or too exited just stay away from social media...Don Jazzy played out this part very well on social media even when Olamide kept on calling him out he stayed calm and maintained his cool just like Jega which was contrary to what he did on stage.
Very difficult to stay calm after this....
Be calm.
2. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY POTENTIAL VIRAL/TRENDING TOPIC VERY EARLY:
The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA did this perfectly as they too over the Don Jazzy and Olamide Headies award beef with the current #Leavetrashforlawma hashtag trending on twitter. 3. EVERY BODY NEEDS A SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN EXPERT:
The Headies gave the award to Reekado Banks because he was the winner by far due to the fact that the category is determined by votes. When it comes to social media presence Don Jazzy has it on a lock down because he has lots of social media expert and strategist in his pay roll. Although Lilkesh's Shoki is still being felt on the street and in the clubs till date one thing his team and YBNL as a whole fails to understand is that the major part of the votes comes from online and not the street.
So if you do not create campaigns directed specifically to your fans on social media urging them to vote for your song you might probably miss out in the award just like what we witnessed at #theHeadies2015.
