Ebola: One Case left as FG Postpones Primary & Secondary Schools’ Resumption to October

The Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, made the announcement yesterday that Schools are scheduled to re-open on Monday, 13th October.

This is as a result of the Ebola virus epidemic that has hit some West African countries recently. Regardless of the spread of Ebola the ministry health announced that Nigeria now has only one single case of the infectious virus.

Chukwu who gave  an update on the disease in Abuja told journalists that:

"today is the 30th day since the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) was imported into Nigeria by a Liberian - American.  As of today   Nigeria has had thirteen cases of EVD including the index case."

"However,  seven of the infected persons were successfully managed at the isolation ward in Lagos and have been discharged home."

 

"Two of the treated patients,  a male doctor and a female nurse were discharged   Monday evening, having satisfied the criteria for discharge."

 

"As I speak with you, Nigeria has only one confirmed case of EVD,  a secondary contact of Mr Patrick Sawyer's and spouse of one of the physicians who participated in the management of the index case. She is stable but still on treatment at the isolation ward in Lagos," the minister said.

 

Meanwhile,  the Federal Government has ordered that all primary and secondary schools in the country should resume in October, instead of the usual September resumption. This directive applies to both private and public institutions.
