The man who got life sentence for marijuana
Cordelia Hebblethwaite reported for bbc.com/trending
over the weekend that the office of the governor of Messouri where the campaign
to free Jeff the Marijuana dealer who was jailed for life for selling
marijuana, is currently “reviewing the merits of a petition for clemency
submitted by Mr Mizanskey".
In the US,
there are a lot of people serving life sentences for Cannabis-related
convictions but what made the case of Jeff Mizanskey different was that it got on
Twitter, he was found guilty of "possession and intent to distribute"
cannabis in 1994 and since then he has served 20 years out of his life sentence.
It was his third offence, and under Missouri's "prior and persistent drug
offender" law, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
At the
moment over 370,000 people on twitter have signed an online petition to release
Jeff Mizanskey. And now campaigners are trying to raise $21,000 (£12,000) for
him - a symbolic $1,000 for each year he's been inside. They intend to raise billboards,
and start up a kind of media campaign to raise awareness of his case. This is
just unfair.
life for weed...that’s a little too ‘high’. What
do you guys think about this?
