#ALSIceBucketChallenge Tony Grider, one of the Firefighters Has Died
We have been bring you reports from the on going trend online that has to do with people challenging themselves by pouring buckets of cold water on their body and challenging 3 more people for charity (see for reports here). This trend has been on for a while now and some people have taken it over board, very recently the Campbellsville Fire Department was among four firefighters who sustained injuries from electric shock after a fire truck they were on came too close to a power line.
Tony Grider, was one of the fighters who sustained injuries from the ice bucket challenge that went wrong in Kentucky. The 16-year veteran sustained the most severe injuries of the four and had remained hospitalized since the accident in August.
Grider and three other firefighters were injured when the fire truck they were on came too close to overhead power lines. The Campbellsville Fire and Rescue Department had been assisting students in Campbellsville University's marching band with an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The electric shock occurred after many of the students had already left and no students were injured in the accident.
Grider sustained third degree burns over 55% of his body in the accident. Two other firefighters injured, Capt. Steve Marrs, 37, and firefighter Alex Johnson, 28, were treated and released the day of the accident, while Simon A. Quinn, 22, who also sustained serious injuries, was released from the hospital Sept. 15.
"His family would like to sincerely thank all of those who have been there for them following this tragic accident," Campbellsville Fire Chief Kyle Smith said in a statement. "They would also like to thank each and every firefighter that has been with them at the hospital as well as the staff from Supporting Heroes. Thank you to all of the doctors and nurses at the University of Louisville Hospital who cared for Tony throughout his stay at the hospital."
"Our fire department is equally grateful. We thank all of those listed above and also thank the Campbellsville community, Campbellsville University and the fire departments from across the nation that has provided support."
He is survived by his wife and five children. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made, WAVE reported.
